What we were solving
The Oncological Nursing Society came to Elliance with an idea to build an iPad app to house their publication site in order to give their users a better experience on mobile devices.
The turn around time for this was tight, as they were also launching a new website in the upcoming months and wanted the two launches to line up as they begun their new marketing campaign.
After researching their needs, we determined that an app wasn’t the best solution, as (based on their current analytics) many people still used their browser to view this content.
We decided that a responsive website would be the best course of action for them and, using Metaframe, quickly went to work building a simple HTML wireframe to show them our plan
Since this client was already using Drupal for their website, we went with that as a CMS. Having to learn a new CMS as well as develop a functional website in a few months was one of the more challenging things I have experienced in my field.
For the layout, we went with a standard top-drawer navigation on mobile, and using the built in grid system in Drupal, were able to allow our site to gracefully change views as the browser got smaller.
